| A Message from our President Welcome to the Republican Women Leaders (RWLC) of Calvert Website! RWLC is a young club, just four years old. We invite all Republican women to join and participate in our club’s activities. Our meetings are informative, educational and politically focused. We even manage to have fun! We meet on the first Monday of the month for a dinner meeting. We have a social networking time from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by dinner, guest speaker and meeting at a local Calvert County restaurant. Two to three times a year we have special “members only” events including an Anniversary Brunch and Christmas Party.

Our meeting discussions include current issues before the Maryland General Assembly such as taxes and slots, local government issues such as education and the budget; and national issues including supporting our troops and immigration. We participate actively by personally writing to our legislators, testifying at legislative public hearings and contacting our representatives on important issues. Participating in the Maryland Federation of Republican Women’s Red Scarf Legislative Day helps our members learn about the legislative process and see our legislators in action. Red Scarf day usually includes a reception or lunch so that members have a chance to meet and network with Republican women from across the state.
During election years we provide tuition assistance to members who wish to attend the NFRW’s campaign management school.
Our members also actively participate in training sessions, Board meetings and conventions of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women (MFRW) and the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). In addition to MFRW President Patt Parker, two of our members Faye Bruso and June Lusby were delegates to the 2007 NFRW Convention in Palm Springs; and, 10 members were delegates to the MFRW Convention in Ocean City, Maryland October 12-14, 2007. We join with other Republican organizations in Calvert County to participate in voter education and community events. This year the newly formed Republican Women of Southern Calvert (RWSC) helped organize a Republican team for the Relay for Life and members of the RWLC, RWCC, CCRC, and Central Committee all participated in the Relay. In 2006 the RWLC joined with the Republican Women of Calvert County (RWCC), and the Calvert County Republican Club (CCRC) and the Calvert County Republican Central Committee to sponsor a most successful Republican Candidates’ Forum. This outstanding event brought out 300 people on a Thursday evening in August to meet Republican candidates face-to-face, ask questions and take home literature before deciding their votes for the Primary election. In 2007 RWLC again participated with RWCC and RWSC in decorating a tree for the Calvert County Hospice Festival of Trees.
